It's almost here!!

Turkey Day is almost upon us saints and sinners! I can't wait to indulge! My mama had the nerve to make me do "manual labor" and chop up the greens. That wasn't that fun, but it'll be fun to eat them tomorrow! I hope you all are having fun preparing your favorite thanksgiving dishes, and if you don't celebrate thanksgiving eat, drink, watch football and be merry anyways!

Well I gotta go. Mama is yelling at me to hurry up so we can make this last minute trip to the grocery store. Guess who's making the PECAN PIE this year?!? This girl!! Lol. :)

A little small talk...

Hey y'all! So who loves breakfast? Duh... Everybody. And what's better than waking up to a hot, fresh and delicious breakfast in the morning? Almost nothin, EXCEPT breakfast at night. My friend and I are about to go bum it out at ihop. Because who doesn't like wearing sweats, a messy bun, and uggs while hanging at your neighborhood ihop with your favorite girlfriend? EXACTLY! I can taste the pancakes, hash browns and eggs already! YUM! It's something oh so comforting about breakfast at night, the scenery for one thing, I love to people watch. And the good ole' girl talk. All of which is so much better at ihop, or Waffle House depending on your wallet(that's where I usually go since I'm usually broke). I do my best thinking over breakfast, it's probably the eggs. Welp... Just wanted to drop ya a few lines!

It's Beginning To Look Alot Like.... FALL!

Today in Charleston feels absolutely AMAZIN' I busted out the suede riding boots, a cozy knitted beanie, and a nice little scarf! I felt cozy and festive. Even though it was pretty much all black. Oh well, y'all don't mind do you? Of course not. My weather app said it was supposed to rain, but luckily it didn't. I hope the weather continues to stay this unbelievably GORGEOUS! Not so hot, and not to cold, but just right! For my fellow charlestonians out there... Are y'all ready for the fair?? Rides, turkey legs, funnel cakes. Oh my! Obviously I'm a tad excited, ok. Extremely excited!! Shocker!(sarcasm) Are you guys enjoying the weather wherever you are? Is there anything fun your looking forward to this fall? Let me know just because I'm nosey like that. Haha! :)

Love you guys!

Im BAAAACK!!

Hola chicas, and chicos! I'm back, foreals this time though! I'm gonna get back into everything! Regular blogs, linkups (I've missed the NAIL FILES soooo much), because my nails have changed SO many times over the past month and a half or so! I also want to give the Foodie Pen Pals another shot, because I never received a package, and it wasn't because of the person that had my name, I honestly think it got lost in the postal system since I moved back to Charleston from North Carolina. Or my creepy/sketchy neighbors really stole it. But that's okay! I still want to give folks a "Taste of Charleston" which is an actual event held here every year that recently passed!

I can't believe its the fall ALREADY! It doesn't totally feel like it, except at night and early in the morning but I'm so excited! Riding boots, sweaters, scarves, OH MY! Then the Coastal Carolina Fair comes to town, then its Halloween, then before ya know it it'll be Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Then I have an update on my "Heat-Free Summer" challenge, with pictures!!

And I guess one would call them "Blog-Hauls" since I recently became OBSESSED with eBay, and I've bought so much jewelry from Hong Kong its ridiculous! I'm also on Pinterest now, AND this iPhone/iPad/iPod app called PoshMark where people can take pictures of clothes, shoes or jewelry that's new or gently used and sell it right there!! I already sold a pair of shoes for $20! SCORE!!

Anyways guys, I'm sitting in a really awkward and uncomfortable position with my laptop on my leg and its starting to hurt, I have conditioner in my head STILL and I heard a really creepy noise come from my laundry room, and I'm home alone, so I'm a tad scared... So I'll be back tomorrow with that hair update, and more! Stay Tuned!

As usual...

I'm sick. Again. I get sick like 4 times a year, every season like clock work. The winter... Well because it's the winter. The spring because of allergies, the summer... I have no idea why, and in the fall because it gets cold again. My throat feels like a cat is playing with yarn in there. My eyes are watering like crazy, and when I close my eyes it burns a little. And my nose is running so much it's in a whole other country right now, I've already went though a roll of tissue... Time to get medicated and make love to my bed, and I work tomorrow, ALL DAY!

The Nail Files Linkup: Week Six

So, I'm linking up with Tara and Vicki once again, to show off my prettyful nails!
Last week my nails were BARE, which is kind of rare for me. And on the Fourth of July I painted them a plain white, it was sloppy, last minute, and didn't last long AT ALL. I was really aiming at a bright color this week, and completely unexpectedly I was in my second favorite place(first being Target) and cruising through the face stuff aisle and somebody left a random bottle of polish that completely CAUGHT my attention, and it had to be mine, bonus, it was from my favorite brand, Sally Hansen...

There it is, a gorgeous bright lime-ish green(I suck at descriptions). And y'all know I had to add my sparkly accent to my ring finger!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure: PARROT(how awesome is that name!)
Revlon: 340 Stunning

And this.....

was the finished products. Of course it my quick dry oil stuff, and I didn't clean it up yet. I'm loving this weeks Mani.. :)

So go ahead and grab the button and LINKUP, or I'll hunt you down.....o_o

I'm an old hag...

OMG... I'm 20 years old today. This day, July 6th, 20 years ago my mama brought me into this hard, cold, and cruel world. Then again, what would she do without me... Not much. Can't believe it's another year on this earth. But an awfully bright side, I'm starting my own little personal fund to go to Vegas for the big 21 next year. I've been before, but I was like 17, there's nothing fun to do in Vegas when your 17 years old. When I go next year I plan to spend a week, eat at the Emeril restaurant, see cirque de solei, go to the thunder down under(don't judge me) party hard, and of course shop. I can't wait it's going to be so much fun.

I have a problem...

I have a problem guys, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm obsessed with makeup and nail polish, yes it's true, don't look at me that way, im ashamed. Well not really, since I always get good deals, but still, I have to much and I'm running out of space. To top it off, I'm addicted to those darn peanuts too. I can ONLY find the honey roasted peanuts by the emerald brand at CVS, and that really sucks. I've been looking everywhere for a big can or jar, and no luck. Moving on, you may have noticed I didn't do a Nail Files Linkup post, well that's because I wasn't feeling ANYTHING amongst my 40+ bottles of polish, and I was wanting something orange and the only thing I had was a very sheer shimmery orange from the Spoiled by WetnWild line called "don't be cheesy." I've been on the hunt for the WetnWild Megalast polish in Club Havana, but I could never find it. Then I went into CVS today to see the leftovers of the 50-75% cosmetics sales and there it was, the very last one, waiting on me. Lol. So I snatched it up. I also have been wanting to try Grays Anatomy from the WetnWild Fat Dry line, and that was always gone too. And I found it randomly at the bottom of a display shelf mixed with some Essie, and Sally Hansen stuff, so into my basket it went. The Grays Anatomy is supposed to be a dupe for a Chanel polish I believe, and I definitely don't have Chanel money right now. It is the prettiest multi chrome ever. Purple, green and gray. I wish my CVS would get the Megalast "I need a refresh-mint" in soon. That one is always sold out too. Then I got two single eyeshadows that were on clearance, one covergirl one revlon and both under $2. So I think I did pretty well. *pats myself on the back* I also got a bobble from work(old navy) and it was only $0.97. For some weird reason only the ones with a green top were on clearance. So I got one for me, and one for my mama. If you don't know what a bobble is, where have you been? It's like a water bottle meets portable filtration system. You change the filter like every 2-3 months, and you can take your clean, safe, filtered FREE water with you everywhere you go. I doubt if all Old Navy's have this on sale, but it would hurt to go inside and ask. :) well guys they say the first step to solving your problem is admitting you need help, and I did. So I feel better. *deep sigh*

June 29, 2012

Oh my!

Guess what guys? Today marks exactly one week until my 20th birthday. I'll no longer be a "teenager" and my childhood will only be a fond distant memory, I know a tad dramatic, but it's true. On July 6th it will mark 20 years of my existence. It seems like just yesterday I was having my 6th Barney themed birthday party at my aunts catering hall and dancing with my cousins in my cute new Gap outfit! Man I miss the good ole' days, no worries, no responsibility, no cares just being a kid. Now I have to worry about things. Money, time, work, college, and balance a social life. It's a little stressful and I DO NOT handle stress well, but it's something I can't avoid. I'll just take it with a grain of salt and continue to learn from my mistakes and grow up, now all I need is a boyfriend. LOL!

The Nail Files Linkup: Week Five

Hey y'all, I know I haven't been posting too frequently, its a really busy and stressful time going on in these parts right about now. But it is after 1:00 AM, and I found some time to do my nails and join this here linkup! You know the drill if your nails are all pretty and things head on over to Vicki & Tara for The Nail Files, and linkup so you won't be left out of the equation. :) My nails have been growing so much and so long and I kinda prefer them short and neat so I trimmed them up this week, and I knew for sure I wanted to do some kind of pink and bright summer color!

  • Wet & Wild: Wild Shine in Dreamy Poppy $1

So this was the color I chose. Its super pretty and super affordable. Just a pretty hot pink.

Wet & Wild has some really nice and pretty polishes and SO affordable.

Anyhow, I realized my nails looked WAY to plain, I'm not so plain...Lol. I love just adding a simple touch of sass with an accent nail, and since my nail last week didn't have an accent I added another polish to my ring finger for a little extra somethin' somethin'.

Essie LuxEffects: Set in Stones $8

So I broke out my Essie Luxeffects in Set in Stones($8), which I've been waiting to use since I got it.

Then the finished product looked like this...

I think it added a little something, but not too much. Me like! Do you??

I love mixing polish hi's & low's(if that makes any sense) together.

Don't forget to grab the button...

The Nail Files Linkup: Week Four

Hey y'all. I'm always late for everything, but better late than never right? No? I'm sorry guys. Any who, I'm linking up with Tara & Vicki again this week for the Nail Files to show off my color choice this week. I recently went to Wal-Mart with one of my best beauty/nail loving friends Kierstin(Kee) and lets just say we went a little crazy... I noticed later I got more Autumn/Wintery colors rather than bright spring/summery colors, but its all good. I'll make it work. Moving on... my, my, my I have a short attentions span...FOCUS! These are my nails this week.

Sorry about the horrible quality(my camera and I are still playing hide & seek, and its winning!) And don't worry, the greasy looking stuff around my nails are these Sally Hansen Quick Dry Drops.

Here's a better picture. Its is VERY sheer compared to the color in the bottle, and you would probably need a good three coats, but I only did two, out of pure laziness.

This is a very affordable polish, its from the brand NYC in the line: In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish (try saying that 5x fast!) Its in the color "East Village" Its definitely buildable, but i didn't feel like building it up. Its kind of a duo-chrome sea foam green-turquoise situation...I still like it!

So enough babble...Go ahead and link up with Tara & Vicki, and grab the button too!

So if you wanna link up, head over to either Tara or Vicky's blog and link up!!

Latest Obsession!! 😄😃😍

Just wanted to do this quick post from my phone to let you all know about my latest obsession that I'm actually snacking on right now while doing some homework. I don't even care about the nutrition facts because they're that damn good! It is however a great alternative to a box of candy on movie night. I first found them at CVS about a month or so ago, and I've been hooked ever since. They're honey roasted peanuts by Emerald. Since I'm gonna be doing the Foodie PenPals, YAY!! Cant wait!! My pal is definitely going to get a few packs of these! Yum yum in my tum tum!!

I've Moved On Up!!

So guess what guys... My phone got stolen at a grocery store and I was completely devastated. What 19 year old do you know can go 24 hours without a cell phone. Don't worry I'll wait.... Exactly, NONE! But I didn't want to wait the three or four days it would take to wait for a phone to come through the mail. So the very next morning me and my lovely mother went to the nearest AT&T store and coincidently I was eligible for an upgrade so I was able to get a new FREE iPhone!!! Yay! I got this one insured and bought a case to go with it. I'm so excited. The only down side is I have to manually re enter all of my phone numbers and I lost all of my photos and stuff. #epicfail. But I get much better apps, so I'm excited about that. But the store I went to didn't have the phone on stock, but they called another store and had it put on hold for me. While I was at the original store I got a case for the phone it was about $30, and when I got to the other store they had some cases on clearance and it was a MUCH cuter case anyways versus the other black and red case. And it was only like $17 something,so I exchanged the cases and saved a little money in the process. I already have the basic apps, angry birds, temple run, pandora, Facebook, twitter, google, and all that good stuff. If you guys have any app suggestions please let me know. I'd love your forever! :) and I'm posting this status from my phone right now via my blogger app!! It excites me. Obvi!

Heat-Free Summer Challenge!

OK guys, remember when I briefly told you about my plans to wear my hair curly all summer long. Remember? Great. No, great that you remember not great for my patience or frustration level. I'm not going to put heat on my hair until either the first official day of fall, sometime in September even though it'll still me hotter than fish grease out, or the beginning of September when I just can't take it anymore! It'll probably be the second one. L0l. This means no blow drying, no flatiron, no anything else that has heat. But now is a good time for me to experiment with all my curly hair products. Right now I'm using the Head & Shoulder's Shampoo, Herbal Essence Hydralicious conditioner, a Dr. Miracles Damaged Hair Treatment (not to sure on the exact name) 100% Organic Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. So my actual routine came from the inspiration of the Glamtwinz334 from YouTube. They have hair very similar to mine just longer, and a little thinner. My hair is SO unbelievably thick and annoying, it really makes me want to give up on this whole "Heat Free" thing, or take some scissors to my head and go all Britney Spears, but I wont. So my regimen is at night, and first I shampoo of course, I scrub my scalp really good because I have psoriasis of the scalp and you don't want to leave any dry patches behind. Then sometimes, if I'm not feeling incredibly lazy I'll shampoo again, then i put some warm EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) all over my scalp and some of that Dr. Miracles treatment, which I don't really need, I just like how it makes my scalp tingle and the peppermint smell. After about 10 minutes I rinse that out, then i take about a half teaspoon of coconut oil and rub that all into my hair, especially the edges and the ends. Then I section my hair off into four section and take a good scoop of the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and work that into my hair and running my fingers through it to detangle as much of it as I can and stretching it out, because I don't like when my hair looks short. Then I take smaller sections and take alot, and I mean ALOT of the Herbal Essence conditioner and work it through my hair, roots to ends and some on the edges. Once I'm finished with the conditioner I flip my head over and stretch and scrunch the ends repeatedly. Then I take a scarf and tie it around my head (the edges only) so that my edges will lay flat, then I flip it back over and put a hair tie about in the middle and then put it in a shower cap, then in a bonnet and that's it! I didn't really like the way it turned out the first time, because my hair is in DESPERATE need of a trim, because I trust nobody, so it looked very uneven so I'll have to take my time and work a little slower and stretch it out more. I already have two products that I'm going to try out, but I left them in my locker at work, and I work RIGHT next door to a Walmart. The products I have already purchased is the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask, which is something the twins recommended and I thought I'd give it a try, and the Twisted Sista 30 Second Curl Spray, just to give my curls a little wake up and defining. The twins used a spray as well, but it was Macadamia I believe. I already have a list of new products that I'm going to buy already. Two of them are from Shea Moisture, their Coconut & Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk, and for my bad dandruff and psoriasis the African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo. I also want to try some of the Organix products, mainly the things from the Macadamia Oil, Awapuhi Ginger, Moroccan Argan Oil, Coconut Milk, and Tea Tree Mint line. I also want to try, from Cantu their Natural Hair Cream, not to sure of the full proper name. Finally, for now at least I want to try a few things from the line Eden Body Works, this was the hair product line invented by a 15 year old girl I believe, and she was on Oprah because she made her own natural and organic hair care line at such a young age because of her experience with a bad relaxer. I want to try the Peppermint Tea Tree Shampoo, it caught my attention in the store because its clear. Lol. I know, I'm gullible! Also, the Peppermint Tea Tree Hair Oil, it was in a pretty "recycled" aluminum spray bottle! Cuteness. Finally from that line I want to try the Jojoba Monoi Hair Milk. I also want to try all natural Jojoba Oil, they were sold out at the Vitamin Shop I went to, to get the Coconut Oil, so I'll get it next time. Since I have the week off due to lack off hours and budget cuts at my job, my hair has basically been in a curly side bun, up do messy thing lately. We will see how this whole "Heat-Free" thing goes, hopefully I won't cave in, I don't think I will, I have lots of will power *stares at flatiron*! Are you guys gonna be doing any special summer challenges?

That's all I suppose. If you have any hair product suggestions or advice, please leave me some Comments=help me off the ledge, and pry the hot tools from my hands!

Too dramatic? Nahhhh. :)

Sicky Vicky :(

Since I'm such a loser when it comes to blog challenges...No, no, let's face it..I suck. I always seem to fall short, or blog challenges. Well, since that challenges didn't work out I guess I'll stick to normal posts. And right now I am battling an awful combination of a cold and the dreaded...ALLERGIES. Its that time of year again, when the pesky little pollen wants to poke his ugly little head out and taunt me, my nose, my eyes, and my throat. At night I've been waking up in night sweats. Not cool. And I am NOT a fan of cold medicine so every time I have to take it, its like pulling teeth. Then there's the allergy medicine, which makes me extremely sleepy. I fell asleep, on my face on the floor...half dressed. My mom was in the room as well and just let me lay there, almost dead like. Nice huh? Then I woke up about an hour later because my mom was on the computer checking her email and talking on the phone all loud and what not, so of course it woke me up. I had drool all over my face and hands...to much info? Sorry. My nose is running like a faucet right now as I type this, and I have to work tomorrow morning at 8, so I hope this goes away soon. I ALSO had my wallet stolen from my purse, while I was at work, from inside the break room. Crazy s**t huh? I was SUPER pissed, I'm still pissed and I'll explain it all later...when theres not so much fluid leakin from my nostrils...too much? Sorry.

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 7...

Would you ever take your butt to the freezing cold Arctic and explorer stuff? I think not. At least I wouldn't. That place is practically desolate, only ice (that's slowly melting), polar bears, and fish. That definitely ain't easy livin' there!

But this guy...

Matthew Alexander Henson. He grew up in the M (Maryland) in the D[M]V. When he was a teenager he had a job as a cabin boy on a merchant ship. For years he was able to travel the world and learn everything there is to learn about seamanship. However, he experienced a lot of racism and prejudice during his time on the ship and left once he turned 18. He was offered a job as a servant on an expedition to Nicaragua, during the expedition his skills and talents really shined and he was later asked to be apart of an expedition that would eventually land him in the North Pole. After two decades Henson and a group of people known as the Innuit reached the North Pole on April 7, 1909. Although, it was years before he received and credit for leading such a dangerous expedition, he eventually did, receiving a memorial in honor of the great explorer at the Maryland State House. Henson overcame adversity and showed complete perseverance. Y'all can read more about him here.

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 6...

Everybody and their mama knows her...
BEYONCE!!

She is such an amazing and talented artist! She has SO many firsts its hard to keep track of. Not to mention an adorable new baby named Blue Ivy! She's also very kind. And an amazing business woman. This post is gonna be super short, I'm just gonna let you know how amazing she is, very simply. Even though she has MANY accomplishments and "Firsts" as an African American woman. However, in light of keeping it short and trying to get some more posts out since I'm such a slack blogger, that recently got a new job that I'll tell you all about later. I'll give y'all five Beyonce accomplishments/firsts facts instead.

1. She's the first African American female artist to top the 4 million mark.
2. First female to be awarded the International Artist Award at the American Music Awards.
3. First and ONLY woman to have a single and album simultaneously topping the charts in two different countries.
4. African American female artist with the most magazine covers...EVER!
5. She was also the first and ONLY African American to ever be on the cover of Forbes Magazine.
If y'all want to see the HUGE list of her accomplishments go here.

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 5...

Y'all heard of the movie Roots right?

Stupid question. I'm sure you have... Who hasn't?
But alot of people forget about the actual author of the monumental book, that was later made into a movie that changed the WORLD.

Alex Haley...
Mr. Haley is the genius behind the cultural phenomonom!

Even though that movie is like A WEEK LONG! Well they call it a mini-series, I call it a movie. Its soo worth it to watch it, even a little bit of it.

Not many people know that the story is an adaptation of the history of his ancestors. This man deserves so much more credit than he receives, because he really changed alot of people, especially the people of the 1970s who still had a very racist mentality. He made people open their eyes and realize what our ancestors went through, and how much they suffered, and after being dragged from our homeland, beaten, raped, or maybe even killed, then forced to work in unbearable conditions and not even get decent food, clothes OR an education. I wasn't around when the movie first came out, but my mama says that it made alot of white people feel bad, she said that for a few weeks random people would come up to her and my aunts and uncles and apologize. Weird right? If you want to know more about Haley just go here, and if you want to know more about the story/movie Roots go here.

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 4...

Todays awfully late post is on this little lady here....

Her name is Linda Brown, and she was the first African American child to attempt to desegregate schools in Kansas with the help of the NAACP and her family was one of thirteen families to initiate the infamous lawsuit Brown vs. Board of Education, which was named after her family since they were the first family to decide to take legal action. Linda Brown was a third grader from Topeka, Kansas that wanted a better education at a better school, with better books, and better classrooms. She had to travel about 2 miles just to go to her bus stop, then go to an all Black school, which meant she had to wake up really early everyday. However, there was an all White just a few blocks away, but she wasn't allowed to go there because of the color of her skin, how rude is that! The NAACP took the case to the United States Supreme Court in the fall of 1951 and 3 years later it ended victoriously. All kids, white and black could sit in a classroom together with the same books and share a quality education. And education I wish alot of young kids would appreciate now-a-days. Despite being ridiculed, talked down to, and humiliated and called names everyday, Linda stuck with it, and she was brave and it paid off in the end. You can read a little more about her here.

I'll be shooting out a few more of these, so I might post these consecutively or wait a hour or two between each, I don't want to overload y'all!

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 3...

This Jamaican Guy.

And boy do I LOVE Jamaican food.

Curry Chicken. Jerk Chicken. Roti Bread. Coco Bread. Rice & Peas. Chicken Patties. Coconut Soda.... YUM! (I'm drooling on my laptop right now...OK, slight exaggeration, but you get the idea!)

Anyways getting back on topic, his name is Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr.

Garvey was a member of the Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements. He was apart of the Back-to-Africa movement that helped return people of African decent back to their native and ancestral lands. Garvey founded the UNIA, Universal Negro Improvement Association. He inspired other to want to know and get in touch with their African roots. He was even sentenced to 5 years in prison for some fraud stuff. Garvey received alot of backlash and negativity because some people thought that his actions were a little to extreme. I don't want to give you all a major history lesson, but you can read more about him here. I'll also put in a picture of the Marcus Garvey wax figure from the Great Black Wax Museum in Baltimore, Maryland that I went to during my Washington, DC vacation which you can read about here.

This is the wax version of Marcus Garvey from the museum in Baltimore. It looks a little creepy, I know. That whole museum was a little creepy, if you were there alone, you might pee your pants...I'm just sayin'!

I'm happy I'm getting this up before "tomorrow" we just came back from dinner at Applebee's and OMG! There were so many empty tables, but we waited like 20 minutes...why? No idea! They lost a ton of points for that, and they were slow, and the server we had was new, so...yeah, you know how that is. Besides that I did the 2 for $20 with my sister and we shared onion rings and I had the three-cheese chicken penne pasta and it was delish! I'm still stuffed, but hey! Pasta does that to ya! L0l!

Quick.

This will be super quick! I just walked in the house, and I'm about to leave again in like 2 minutes, they're downstairs screaming my name now. So the Black History Post might be late. Sorry! But I'll get it up as soon as I get back home, I just need to write a little more and tweak it just a hair! Love y'all!

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 2...

Broadway.

I am a Musical WHORE! OK maybe that's a little extreme, but I love musicals.

Rent. West Side Story. Grease (I secretly always wanted to be a Pink Lady). The Wiz. Mary Poppins.
Annie (My sisters favorite, she sings EVERY song obnoxiously!). Fiddler on the Roof. Dream Girls....

And so much more. When I FINALLY make it to New York...Broadway will be my first stop!

So on to the actual HISTORY part of this blog challenge.

This guy.

James Hubert Blake or Eubie Blake

He was the first African American to compose and produce a Broadway musical that was written AND directed by African Americans. And lets face it, a good musical, especially on Broadway is absolutely nothing without an amazing composition. The musical Shuffle Along in 1921 was very popular among both black & white people. His ragtime music was a hit. I'm sure if I was actually in that era I would have enjoyed it as well, but I enjoy almost ALL musicals...hey don't judge me! But I won't sit here and give you a complete bio, you can read it all here yourselves. Its 9 something PM, when I realized "Oh My Lanta! I didn't post and it'll be 12 AM soon!" I hurried to my laptop, did a quick little research and got steadily distracted with my nieces fighting each other ninja style(as always) but I was determined to pump this post out before February 3rd. But you all know I am the queen of procrastination, and for this I can only apologize and continue to be myself! L0l! This was the first time I got on my computer all day actually. Hmmm, wonder who I'll write about tomorrow. Sometimes, I wish I was working on Western Time, that would save me 3 lovely hours! But hey! Wouldn't change these lovely Southern roots for the world, it was just a simple thought. Well, now I'm rambling, so....yeah...bye!

Black History Month Blog Challenge: Day 1...

The first GREAT African American is...

Don Cornelius

I thought he would be very fitting for the first day of Black History Month, seeing how he passed away today. This was extremely sad, and incredibly shocking to me, especially me and my mama (I can use bad grammar all I want) we were just talking about him and his show yesterday. For those of you that don't know Don Cornelius was the creator, producer, host and most importantly OWNER of the hit musical variety & popular dance show Soul Train! The show first aired in 1971. My mama always talks about how her and her brothers and sisters would watch Soul Train for the latest fashion and dance moves, then imitate it and the next party or dance. She also told me that my uncle had a MASSIVE fro' back in the day! Haha! In the 70s African Americans never really owned any television programs, however Don did. Many shows tried to compete with his (ex. American Bandstand) but couldn't.  He had many legendary performers from The Jackson Five, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, to Diana Ross. He had white performers as well, such as David Bowie and Elton John(Benny & The Jets is one of my FAVE songs!) I mean, c'mon Soul Train is iconic, even it that wasn't your era. He was a pioneer for African Americans to own televisions shows and for people like Oprah to have their own cable television network. So many famous people have come out of Soul Train, just being dancers. Rosie Perez, the group Shalamar, Rerun, and choreographer to the stars Laurie Ann Gibson. However not famous, the small Asian woman with hair down to her butt, was very iconic. I still remember watching her on old rerun episodes. Because of Don Cornelius African American weddings, birthday parties, and family reunions are now SO much more fun when your dancing down a Soul Train line doing the bump with your favorite cousin that you only get to see once a year. Another great African American pioneer paving the way. Rest in Peace Mr. Don Cornelius!

Yay! Got it posted before the 1st is over! And I've already started drafting the post for tomorrow *pats self on back*

I usually sign out of my posts "Peace & Love" but seeing the topic, I thought THIS would be more fitting:

Love, Peace...and Souuuuuuuuul!!

The Start of a New Month!

Today marks the first day of Black History Month! I hope its a prosperous month, no violence, no ignorance, and nothing that makes the African American race look bad. I pray that people stop falling victim to all the NEGATIVE stereotypes. Good for me, I've always been a good girl. However, some people are products of their environment. But I'm a country girl, turned suburban girl! Now that I live in North Carolina with my sister, I see that its my job to teach my nieces a little about African American History. I took the class in high school, and its also my minor. I just sort of love History in general. I want them to know all the amazing contributions African American made to the world. Not just the basics that everybody knows like Martin Luther King Jr. or Harriet Tubman. Although their contributions were great, its a WHOLE lot more, that not really talked about that much. I think everyday I'll post a little bio & history and a not-so-well-know African American that has done something great. It'll be a great challenge for me, since it seems that I constantly takes the hiatuses! L0l! But I'm up for the challenge *brave girl face & pose*

I'll get started on the first "official" entry right after I post this one! I'm already gonna give you guys 29 GUARANTEED posts! :) Don't I feel accomplished! L0l! It's all for y'all!
